Measures reported by HBladeChasLEDTest

The chassis includes a set of LEDs for visually notifying the administrators about internal operation state, alarms and warnings. The below table explains you in detail about what are those LEDs and how the notifications are flashed by the LEDs according to the different operation states of the chassis and the hardware modules in the chassis.

LED State Description
Power LED
Green-On Main power of one or more blades is on.
Green-Blink The chassis is shut down by the management module.
Amber-On Main power of all the blades is off.
Amber-Blink Initialization when the power is first supplied to the server chassis.
Alarm LED Red -On Alarm, the chassis found a non-redundant failure.
Warning LED Amber-On Warning, a failure was detected in one or more modules.
Identify LED Blue-On The server chassis is identified.

Through these visual notifications, the administrators can easily find out health and availability of the chassis and the hardware modules. In addition, the occurrence of redundant failures and anomalies inside the chassis can be easily visualized by administrators. If the LEDs fail due to physical damage, fuse failures or abrupt voltage fluctuations, then, administrators will be deprived of visual notifications. This will leave the administrators unaware of the state changes, warnings and fatal failures occurred in the chassis at the earlier stage and thus causing serious problems to the chassis. To avoid such failures, the administrators should closely monitor health of the LEDs to figure out abnormalities (if any). The HBladeChasLEDTest test helps the administrators in this regard!

This test reports current status of each LED on the chassis and also reveals the colors illuminated by the LED for denoting various notifications.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Led_Status Indicates the current status of this LED.   The values that this measure can report and the numeric values they indicate have been listed in the table below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Turn Off 1
Turn On 2
Unknown 3
Blink 4
Blink Fast 5
Blink Slow 6

Note:

By default, this measure can report the Measure Values mentioned above while indicating the current status of each LED in tha chassis. However, the graph of this measure is indicated using the numeric equivalents.

Led_color Indicates the color emitted by this LED.   The values that this measure can report and the color they illuminate have been listed in the table below:

Color Numeric Value
Blue 1
Green 2
Red 3
Amber 4
Unknown 0

Note:

By default, this measure can report the Colors mentioned above while indicating the color of each LED on the chassis. However, the graph of this measure is indicated using the numeric equivalents.
