Measures reported by HBladeSWModuleTest

The Hitachi Compute Blade 500 contains four switch modules that are connected with the server blades through an onboard CNA or Mezzanine cards on the server blades. The switch modules control connectivity among the blades and also enable the Hitachi Compute Blade 500 to support flexible connectivity for cloud architectures including loseless Ethernet fabrics. If any of these switch modules fails or if the switch modules are kept under maintenance mode for longer duration, then, the switch modules become unavailable to use. This in turn, makes the connectivity among the blades down and also impacts the Ethernet connections established from the blades. To prevent this, administrators must proactively find out how healthy that each switch module is? whether the switch module is powered on or powered off? and is the switch module in the maintenance mode? The HBladeSWModuleTest test helps the administrators in this regard!

This test auto-discovers the switch modules in the Hitachi Compute Blade 500, and reports how healthy each switch module is, power status and maintenance mode of each switch module.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Health_Status Indicates the current health status of this switch module.   The values that this measure can report and the numeric values they indicate have been listed in the table below:

State Numeric Value
Normal 1
Failed 2
Unknown 0

Note:

By default, this measure can report the Measure Values mentioned above while indicating the current health of each switch module. However, the graph of this measure is indicated using the numeric equivalents.

Power_Status Indicates the current power status of this switch module.   The values that this measure can report and the numeric values they indicate have been listed in the table below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
PowerOff 1
PowerOn 2
Unknown 3

Note:

By default, this measure can report the Measure Values mentioned above while indicating the power status of each switch module. However, the graph of this measure is indicated using the numeric equivalents.

Maintenance_Mode Indicates the current maintenance mode of this switch module.   The values that this measure can report and the numeric values they indicate have been listed in the table below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Normal 1
CE Maintenance Mode 2
User Maintenance Mode 3
Unknown 4

Note:

By default, this measure can report the Measure Values mentioned above while indicating the current maintenance mode of each switch module. However, the graph of this measure is indicated using the numeric equivalents.
