Default Parameters for LinuxPrinterStTest

This test enables administrators to monitor the status of the printers that are configured on the target host system. This test reports the status of the scheduler using which administrators can promptly be alerted whenever the scheduler is not running. This test also reports the count of printers that are currently active, disabled, idle and those that are accepting printing requests. By carefully analyzing the metrics reported by this test, administrators can figure out the printers that are responsible for an overload condition with respect to the printing process.

This page depicts the default parameters that need to be configured for the LinuxPrinterStTest.

  • The TEST PERIOD list box helps the user to decide how often this test needs to be executed.

  • In the HOST text box, the host name of the server for which the test is to be configured has to be specified.

  • By default, this test auto-discovers the printers and reports the jobs processed by each printer. In some environments, administrators may want to exclude the jobs processed by certain printers from the scope of monitoring. For this purpose, administrators can specify a comma-separated list of printers in the EXCLUDE PRINTERS text box. The printers specified in this text box will not auto-discovered and hence will not be listed as descriptors of this test. By default, this parameter is set to none.

  • Once the necessary values have been provided, clicking on the UPDATE button will register the changes made.

When changing default configurations of tests, the values with “$” indicate variables that will be replaced by the eG system according to the specific server being managed - for instance, $hostName is the host/nickname of the target host, $port is the port number of the server being monitored. E.g., for a server xyz:80, $hostName will be changed automatically by the eG manager to “xyz*” and $port will be changed to “80” when configuring a test.
