Measures reported by OSHvVmStatusTest

This test continuously the target OpenStack KVM hypervisor and reports the count of virtual machines (VMs) that are in different states. This test enables administrators to instantly determine how many VMs are currently running on the target hypervisor and how many VMs are deleted/stopped/paused/suspended. In addition, the test also reveals the count of VMs that encountered unrecoverable errors. Using the metrics reported by this test, administrators can promptly identify the reason for inaccessibility of the VMs whenever users complain of the same.

Outputs of the test: One set of results for the target hypervisor.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

No_of_vm_active Indicates the number of VMs that are currently running normally on the target hypervisor. Number

A high value is desired for this measure.

Used the detailed diagnosis of this measure to know the name and status of each VM that is active, IP addresses and host name of each VM, name of the availability zone, key name, date at which the VM was created, ID of each VM, ID of the project, flavor ID, and image ID.

No_of_vm_building Indicates the number of VMs that are currently in the BUILDING state. No_of_vm_deleted Indicates the number of VMs that are deleted. Number Used the detailed diagnosis of this measure to know the name and status of each VM that is deleted, IP addresses and host name of each VM, name of the availability zone, key name, date at which the VM was created, ID of each VM, ID of the project, flavor ID, and image ID.
No_of_vm_error Indicates the number of VMs that encountered unrecoverable error. Number

Ideally, the value of this measure should be 0.

Used the detailed diagnosis of this measure to know the name and status of each VM that encountered errors, IP addresses and host name of each VM, name of the availability zone, key name, date at which the VM was created, ID of each VM, ID of the project, flavor ID, and image ID.

No_of_vm_paused Indicates the number of VMs that are currently paused with a specific image. Number

Used the detailed diagnosis of this measure to know the name and status of each VM that is in ‘Paused’ state, IP addresses and host name of each VM, name of the availability zone, key name, date at which the VM was created, ID of each VM, ID of the project, flavor ID, and image ID.

No_of_vm_rescued Indicates the number of VMs that are currently running with the rescue image. Number

Used the detailed diagnosis of this measure to know the name and status of each VM that is currently running with rescue image, IP addresses and host name of each VM, name of the availability zone, key name, date at which the VM was created, ID of each VM, ID of the project, flavor ID, and image ID.

No_of_vm_resized Indicates the number of VMs that are currently in the RESIZED state. Number

If a VM is in the RESIZED state, then it indicates that the VM is stopped on the source node but running on the destination node. The VM images exist at both source and destination locations with different sizes. The user is expected to confirm the resize or revert it.

Used the detailed diagnosis of this measure to know the name and status of each VM that is in ‘RESIZED’ state, IP addresses and host name of each VM, name of the availability zone, key name, date at which the VM was created, ID of each VM, ID of the project, flavor ID, and image ID.

No_of_vm_shelved Indicates the number of VMs that are currently in the SHELVED state. Number

Shelved VMs can be in one of two possible states: shelved and shelved_offloaded. If a VM is in the shelved state, then it indicates that the VM is still present on the target hypervisor but is in inactive state.

When the VM is moved to in shelved_offloaded state, it indicates that the VM has been removed from the hypervisor and the resources allocated to the VM are released.

Used the detailed diagnosis of these measures to know the name and status of each VM that is in ‘SHELVED_OFFLOAD’ and ‘SHELVED’ state, IP addresses and host name of each VM, name of the availability zone, key name, date at which the VM was created, ID of each VM, ID of the project, flavor ID, and image ID.
